My journey into dog sports began in 2005 when I enrolled in classes with my seven-month-old Jack Russell Terrier. What started as a way to learn new skills quickly became something much more. I was amazed by what I could teach my dogs, how much I was learning from them, and the bond we developed along the way.
Before long, we were competing in local agility trials and traveling together on weekends. Those adventures gave me a deeper understanding of canine confidence, conditioning, and the importance of working with each dog as an individual.
That experience showed me just how much dogs can accomplish when they are given the right encouragement, environment, and opportunities to succeed.

When the AKC Agility Nationals came to Harrisburg, I watched dogs happily playing in a small pool set up by one of the vendors.
I started imagining a place where dogs could swim for conditioning, confidence, exercise or simply the joy of being in the water—without being limited by Pennsylvania’s changing seasons.
The idea stayed with me, waiting for the right dog and the right opportunity to bring it to life.

When JR, our third Jack Russell, arrived at R-Horizon Farm in May 2018, it didn’t take long to discover his love of the water.
That summer, JR’s passion for swimming grew from a small inflatable pool to a water trough and eventually a larger backyard pool. But every fall brought the same disappointment when colder weather meant his swimming season had to end.
In the fall of 2020, a retired farm building became available. Inspired by JR, and a long-held vision of providing year-round swimming, we transformed the space into something special—and Soggie Doggie was born.
