A Gentle Introduction to the Water

Soggie Doggie’s puppy classes give young dogs a structured, low-pressure start in the pool. Puppies begin in the baby pool, get comfortable with the ramp and the feel of being wet, and progress only as their confidence grows. Class dates and times vary by session, so contact us to ask about the next one.

Tadpole Class

Four one-hour classes
Designed for puppies about five months old
Starts in the baby pool and on the ramp
Gradual move to the larger pool as confidence grows
Parents may join in the pool for support
Life jackets available when appropriate

A continuation of Tadpole skills
More work with the ramp

Why Start Swimming Young?

An early, positive experience helps puppies learn that water is fun, not scary. They learn how to find the ramp, get in and out safely and build the coordination and confidence they’ll carry into adulthood, whether they become pool regulars, dock divers or simply safer around water.

Every puppy moves at their own pace. We will never force a dog into the water, and if swimming isn’t a good fit, we’ll tell you honestly.

Common Questions

How old does my puppy need to be?

Dogs generally need to be at least four months old to swim at Soggie Doggie. The Tadpole Class is designed for puppies about five months old. Contact us if you’re not sure which option fits your puppy.

Do I get in the pool with my puppy?

In puppy classes, parents may enter the pool to help their puppy feel safe and supported.

What should we bring?

Completed Welcome Packet forms, current vaccination records, towels, poop bags and a leash no longer than six feet. Please don’t feed your puppy for at least four hours before class.
